Marketing | Communications | Development
My career in journalism and communications took me around the world! I lived in Washington, DC, and New York City, and traveled to Egypt, China, Vietnam, England, Canada, and elsewhere. I crossed paths with all sorts of people: CEOs, politicians, academics, artists... even secret service agents. I also met teachers, small business owners, health care workers, students and families. I attended events like the Olympic Games, political conventions, celebrity galas, and business forums. These experiences broadened my understanding of the world and stoked my curiosity about it. Most of all, they deepened my belief that everyone's story has value.
Here's a little more about my professional background: I have 15+ years of experience as a journalist, communications and marketing professional for The Associated Press, TIME, Fortune, and other mission-driven organizations. My current role is marketing and communications director for an education nonprofit that supports equity and innovation in a diverse K-12 school district. I have expertise in writing, media relations, crisis communications, event planning, and brand and message development for products, programs, events, and fundraising. I craft narratives with clarity and impact. I also teach creative writing for young people.
I began my career as a reporter in Washington, D.C., covering politics and public policy for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, National Journal and Stateline, a nonprofit news organization. Later, I led a team of digital journalists, managing content for breaking news, business, entertainment, and sports.
I earned a journalism degree from the University of Wisconsin at Madison and an MFA in creative writing from Vermont College of Fine Arts.
